20th International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment


Theme - Life in the Forests (Biodiversity)

The International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment is organized every year by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation. It has been held since 1991 and has received more than 3 million entries from children in over 100 countries.

2011 is the 20th edition of the International Children's Painting Competition. To mark the UN's International Year of Forests in 2011, the theme of this year's painting competition is 'Life in the Forests' and participants have until 15 April 2011 to submit their entries.

The competition is open to children between the ages of 6 -14. Children are allowed to submit more than one entry. Selection of winners shall be categorized on regional winners, with each region producing only one winner and overall global winners.

The African regional winner’s selection will take place on 29 April 2011 with the announcement of the winner taking place on 5 June 2011 which is also World Environment Day

Deadline: All entries must reach the relevant UNEP regional office by 15 April 2011 at the latest.
