Environmental Governance in Kenya

This theme targets the sensitization of Parliamentarians and Councillors in Local Government in an effort to build and strengthen their capacity and understanding of critical environmental issues that affect ecosystems and urban environments.

UNEP Kenya country Programme is engaging in this priority through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources. National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is the focal point for regulatory interventions at the national level, while the Ministry of Local Government is the entry point for Local Authorities.

Members of parliament and councilors have been sensitized on a variety of environmental issues focusing on 20 hotspots highlighted in the Kenya Atlas of our changing environment.
