Area(s) of Expertise: Mr. Jerker Tamelander joined UNEP's Division of Environmental Policy Implementation in April 2011 as Head of the Coral Reef Unit located at UNEP ROAP. He leads UNEP’s work on coral reefs, working closely with Regional Seas programmes on a range of issues including climate change adaptation, water quality, fisheries and poverty. He also advises and supports UNEP's 'blue carbon' initiative on management of coastal ecosystems for climate change mitigation. Jerker has worked in applied marine research, management and policy development for more than 15 years, as an employee of the Finnish Institute of Marine Research, with UNEP focusing on Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans, and most recently as Manager, Oceans and Climate Change at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He has an MSc in Marine Biology from Gothenburg University in Sweden.
