Area(s) of Expertise: Mr. Mozaharul Alam has joined the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as Regional Climate Change Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific Region in August 2009. His current responsibility is to coordinate planning and development, oversee and facilitate implementation including technical inputs and support in the start up phase of implementation of Climate Change Programme of Work (PoW) related projects while ensuring overall consistency with the PoW Outputs and alignment with regional and country needs. He is also providing political guidance and policy advice and support for the Southeast Asia Network of Climate Change Focal Points, Asia Pacific Adaptation Network and Knowledge Platform. He also supports UNDAF preparation process and co-chair Climate Change Joint Programme for UNPAF Thailand. Before moving to UNEP, he has spent significant of his professional time with Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) starting from 1992 as a Researcher and lead several climate change studies and coordinated climate change programme of the organization. In 1994, he has joined Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of Bangladesh as National Project Coordinator to formulate National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA). After successful completion of Bangladesh NAPA, he has returned to BCAS in 1995 and continued his responsibility to lead climate change team and programme. He has also contributed to the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as a Contributing Author. He is working as a Lead Author for Chapter 16 of the Working Group II of IPCC for the Fifth Assessment Report.
