UNEP assists 35-45 countries in the region to carry out Technology Needs Assessments (TNA) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. These assessments will involve amongst others, in-depth analysis and prioritization of technologies, analysis of potential barriers to the transfer of prioritized technologies as well as potential market opportunities at the national level. In addition, National Technology Action Plans agreed by all stakeholders at the country level will be prepared in line with domestic and global objectives.
The project begins with 15 countries and will then include 20 to 30 countries. Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and Viet Nam are among the15 countries in the region involved in the TNA exercise in the first phase while Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Laos and Bhutan are among countries included in the second phase. The UNEP Riso Centre in Denmark is providing technical support to governments for preparing the TNA and Technology Action Plans.
