UNEP and The League of Arab States to strengthen cooperation to address environmental issues in the Arab region

Appreciating the green initiatives which have been steadily mushrooming in the Arab Region, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UNEP Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, said UNEP and the League of Arab States (LAS) will work together to ensure adequate response to environmental priorities of the Arab Region.

Five monitoring stations track air pollution in Lebanon

The Environment Ministry in Lebanon in collaboration with UNEP and UNDP has launched the Air Quality Monitoring network within the frame of the project to develop environment resources in Lebanon, funded by Greece.

The project aims at informing experts on a long-lasting plan to improve the quality of air by installing five monitoring stations that operate in different sites in Lebanon, to assess the air quality and monitor it.

UNEP Goodwill Ambassador For the Arab Region

UNEP designates Ragheb Alama a Goodwill Ambassaor and talks about food waste reduction

Within the context of the Global UNEP/FAO Campaign to Cut Food Waste and in support to the UN Secretary-General’s Zero Hunger initiatives, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in West Asia and the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Beirut organized a joint awareness campaign to reduce food waste and eliminate hunger in the Arab region. The campaign is supported by UNEP Goodwill Ambassador in West Asia Ragheb Alama who is also a member of the panel of Arab Idol programme broadcasted by MBC channel. The campaign is also supported by Future TV, Radio Orient, and Middle East Airlines.
