Act #ForNature Forum

Every two years, decision makers from around the globe come together at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), pushing for action on the most critical environmental challenges.

As COVID-19 requires that we maintain distance, the fifth UNEA meeting (UNEA-5) is scheduled for 2021. But distance does not mean complacency; and preparations are underway.

Building on the momentum created by World Environment Day (5 June 2020), the Act #ForNature Global Online Forum  (7 – 10 June 2020) is a worldwide call to citizens, government and non-governmental organizations, businesses and scientific institutions to help formulate solutions.

Led by UNEA President and Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, Sveinung Rotevatn and UN Under Secretary-General and UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director, Inger Andersen, the agenda will feature discussion of zoonotics and healthy ecosystems, global food systems and marine litter, among others; and will be attended by a wide range of prominent experts–UNEP Deputy Executive Director, Joyce Msuya; award-winning author of Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, David Quammen; IBM Chief Engineer of Data and AI Expert Labs and Learning, Richard Darden; EAT Founder and Executive Chair, Gunhild Stordalen; WWF International Wildlife Leader, Margaret Kinnaird; and the actor/singer/musician/environmental activist and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador, Aidan Gallagher.

By engaging in this series of open and inclusive discussions, participants can help build a compelling case for transformational change for nature and people in the context of the post COVID-19 world, and pave the way for a successful fifth meeting of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5).

And for the first time ever, these discussions will be virtual–enabling the widest participation, and ensuring that voices are heard, even as much of the world is compelled to keep distance.
