About The Nippon Foundation

Established in 1962, The Nippon Foundation is a non-profit grantmaking organization based in Japan that supports innovative initiatives to bring about positive changes in our world.  With the fundamental aim to realize a peaceful and prosperous global society, in which none need struggle to secure their basic human rights, the foundation has been providing support to projects in areas such as education, social welfare, public health and maritime safety both within Japan and in more than one hundred countries to date.  

Together with the World Health Organization (WHO) Sasakawa Health Prize, the United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction and the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education, the UNEP Sasakawa Prize is one of four prestigious prizes established in the United Nations by The Nippon Foundation.
