The Channel of Peace Commission of the Catholic Church, supported by UNEP, hosted a Peace Tournament and Concert at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Saturday 14 June 2008.

The Tournament is linked to the UNEP Peace, Sport and the Environment Initiative that will run from June to September 2008 involving youth from the eight constituencies in Nairobi. The tournament is also one of the several activities lined up by the Channel of Peace Commission to build peace and cohesion among Kenyans.

The UN was represented by an inter-agency team in this tournament. There was a peace concert after the tournament featuring local artists including Eric Wainaina and Kanji Mbugua.

Over 300 youth attended the peace tournament at the Kasarani stadium. Achim Steiner, UNEP's Executive Director, and Satinder Bindra, Director of UNEP's Division of Communications and Public Information, were also in attendance.
