Global Forum for Sports & Environment (G-ForSE)
Lahore, Pakistan, November 24-26, 2004

The 2004 Global Forum for Sports and the Environment (G-ForSE) was held in Lahore, Pakistan from 24 to 26 November 2004. It brought together participants from the United Nations, the sporting goods industry, international sports organizations, organizers of major sports events and non-governmental organizations to discuss the impact and contribution of sports to the environment.

The Forum was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Sports Alliance (GSA), and the Pakistan-based Irfan Group of Companies.

The Forum was held at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore and it focused on “Corporate Environmental Responsibility”. It explored ways by which sports corporations, particularly the sporting goods industry, can enshrine and promote sustainable development in their activities.

The sporting goods industry is growing extensively and is a leading industry in the world. Both athletes and non-athletes drive the increasing demand for sporting goods. These goods are developed using resources from the already fragile ecosystem. The need for alternative ways of meeting the increasing demand for sporting goods is critical," David Chernushenko and the United Nations Environment Programme, 2001: Sustainable Sport Management: Running an Environmentally, Socially and Economically Responsible Sport.
