
On 27 June 2011, the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel organized a workshop entitled “Review of tools and methods to increase climate resilience of GEF focal areas”. Thirty-five participants from the GEF agencies, GEF Secretariat focal area teams, GEF RBM team, GEF Evaluation Office, and experts from bilateral institutions and academia came together to discuss the following four matters:
- existing approaches and practices of incorporating climate risks into GEF portfolio at the focal area level;
- approaches to mainstream climate risks into projects and operations of GEF agencies and development institutions;
- analysis of the applicability of existing tools and approaches in the GEF context; and
- survey demand from the GEF partnership to mainstream climate resilience/risk accounting into GEF projects in fulfillment of the 39th GEF Council decision to develop and implement climate resilience screening tools.
