Ozone

Ozone Secretariat
The Secretariat for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and for the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The site is a clearinghouse of information related to the Ozone and the challenges faced in its preservation.

The OzonAction Programme
Supports the phase out of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) in developing countries under the Montreal Protocol through its information clearinghouse and capacity-building services.

Secretariat of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol
Assists developing country parties to the Montreal Protocol whose annual per capita consumption and production of ozone depleting substances (ODS) is less than 0.3 kg to comply with the control measures of the Protocol.

The Methyl Bromide Alternatives Discussion Forum & RUMBA Update Service
Methyl Bromide is an ozone depleting crop fumigant controlled under the Montreal Protocol. Our discussion forum enables members to exchange knowledge about issues related to the methyl bromide phase out. RUMBA is a monthly electronic news service of the OzonAction Programme that assists developing countries with reducing and eliminating their use of methyl bromide.

MAP to a Healthy Harvest
A joint UNEP/UNIDO web site on methyl bromide alternatives that showcases demonstration projects in developing countries covering 12 different crops and 8 different commodities and structural applications to evaluate a range of alternative technologies to methyl bromide designed to meet local farming conditions.

The Halon Trader
Trading of existing halons has been a key strategy to phase out halons under the Montreal Protocol. This site helps people who need halon for essential uses and people who have recycled or banked halon find each other.

Unidad de Acción por el Ozono
OzonAction in the Latin American and Caribbean Region

Climate Change

UNEP.net - Climate Change Thematic Portal
A global portal to authoritative environmental information based on themes and regions

Vital climate graphics
The visual information contained in Vital Climate Graphics makes it possible to grasp complex facts on global climate change more quickly and fully than would be possible through simple text.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The role of the IPCC is to assess the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change. It does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate related data or other relevant parameters. It bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific/technical literature.

Others

Pollutant Release and Transfer Register
A clearinghouse of systems developed by several national and regional government organisations to collect and disseminate data on environmental releases and transfers of toxic chemicals from industrial facilities.

Global Environment Outlook
GEO-3, the most recent version, provides an overview of the main environmental developments over the past three decades, and how social, economic and other factors have contributed to the changes that have occurred. Addresses land, forests, biodiversity, freshwater, coastal and marine areas, atmosphere, urban areas, and disasters.

World Conservation Monitoring Center
Provides information for policy and action to conserve the living world. Programmes concentrate on species, forests, protected areas, marine and freshwaters; plus habitats affected by climate change such as polar regions. Also address the relationship between trade and the environment and the wider aspects of biodiversity assessment

Earthwatch
Provides 'integrated' information gathered from across the UN system relevant for policymaking by building essential partnerships across the UN system with the scientific community, governments and NGOs.

Regions

UNEP Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP)
RRC.AP implements DEWA's priorities in Asia and the Pacific Region through the three components in the programme: (i) Capacity Building and Servicing, (ii) Data Management, and (iii) Assessment and Reporting

Regional Office for West Asia
Ensures that the environmental priorities in the West Asia region get adequate representation in the global network programmes carried out by UNEP, and that global focus areas are reflected in the environmental work carried out in the countries of the region. Focus areas on the state of the world include freshwater, marine and coastal issues, biodiversity, atmosphere, land, cleaner production, public awareness, environmental assessment, and forests.
