Training Workshop on Assessing the Vulnerability and Adaptation of Coastal Zones to Climate Change -Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, May 08-12, 2004.

The goal of this workshop was to increases awareness, use, and application of methods for the assessment of sea level rise impacts and adaptation options, as well as extreme events. The workshop is targeted primarily for use in context of climate change National Communications, but is also relevant for use in a broader policy context.

The workshop addressed four objectives, as follows:

  • to provide a broad overview of the methods and tools available for conducting vulnerability and impact assessments for coastal regions;
  • to provide participants with a structured application of an assessment methodology in a set of case study based exercises;
  • to develop a practical workplan for undertaking an actual study by country teams, given constraints in data availability.
  • to initiate a network of sea level rise analysts in Africa and Arab States
