Key activities of UNEP in sustainable consumption and production include initiatives with Governments and all civil society groups to address new public policies and
improved application of policy tools in support of sustainable consumption and production. Following up on calls from the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) and the Millennium Summit, this work area includes the Marrakech Process on Sustainable Consumption and Production, as well as activities to address poverty alleviation through new models of business entrepreneurship and industrial development.
It also explores the role and impact of public institutions themselves, for example through sustainable procurement.
