RSM Fellowships Program Seeking Scholarship Applicants for PhD Research on Development
Summary: The World Bank Robert S. McNamara (RSM) Fellowships Program is open to women and men of developing nations undertaking PhD research related to development.
- Up to $25,000 (U.S.) for developing country nationals to travel abroad to conduct development-related PhD research under the supervision of a host research advisor at a university, research or development institution in a World Bank member country.
- Scholarship covers a 6 to 10 month period starting between July and December 2016.

International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) - Young Scientists Summer Program 2016
Summary: IIASA invites doctoral students worldwide to participate in its Young Scientists Summer Program held at IIASA's headquarters in Austria. International Growth Centre (IGC) - Research on Economic Growth in Developing Countrie
Summary: The IGC invites proposals relevant to growth policies in developing countries. IGC's programs are organized by countries and themes. The themes include one on energy, with focus on three topics: (i) increasing the access and quality of energy services in developing countries; (ii) energy efficiency; and (iii) minimizing the external costs of energy consumption.
Applications are open worldwide, although IGC's particular countries of interest are Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Liberia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

American Ornithologists Union (AOU) - Research Grants in Ornithology 2016
Summary: The AOU makes grants up to US$2,500 in several areas of ornithological research. Applicants are university and post-doctoral students who are members of the AOU, and individuals without access to funds from major granting agencies. The Wetmore Memorial Fund supports research in avian systematics, paleo-ornithology, biogeography, and especially neotropical biology - and it encourages Latin American students to apply.

Inter-American Foundation - Research on Grassroots Development in Latin America 2016-2017
Summary: The Inter-American Foundation supports PhD research in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) on themes related to grassroots development. Past projects have included topics in agriculture, watershed management, and climate change (among others).
Eligibility: Citizens of the USA and citizens of independent Latin American and Caribbean countries (except Cuba) who are PhD candidates at universities in the USA.

East-West Center - South Pacific Scholarship Program
Summary: The United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program provides opportunities for university studies (masters and bachelors degrees) at the University of Hawai‘i in fields that are relevant to the development needs of Pacific island countries.
Priority areas of study include agriculture, environmental studies, and many others.
Eligibility: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Rainforest Trust - Rainforest Ark Initiative 2016
Summary:The Rainforest Ark Initiative provides partnership and funding opportunities to local conservation NGOs across the tropics.
Funded projects aim to establish and/or expand protected areas for critically endangered and endangered wildlife and birds.
The Initiative invites applications for conservation partnerships from nonprofit entities and NGOs for projects in tropical Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
Applying organizations may submit proposals for either a land purchase or a protected area designation.

European Commission Horizon 2020 - Sustainable Food Security 2016
Summary: The Horizon 2020 program of research and innovation includes topics that are suitable for international cooperation. This includes cooperation in several projects of sustainable food security (SFS). Project SFS-02 will explore the benefits of species diversity in cropping systems. SFS-06 will research strategies, tools, and technologies for weed management.

Royal Bank of Canada - Blue Water Project 2016
Summary: The RBC's Blue Water Project makes grants for watershed protection and safe drinking water in two programs. (i) The Community Action Grants are up to $10 thousand for local and community organizations in Canada, USA, and the Caribbean. (ii) Leadership Grants ranging from $10 thousand to $100 thousand are available in North America and other countries where RBC does business.

Rainforest Alliance - Kleinhans Fellowship for Research in Community Forestry
Summary: The Rainforest Alliance is interested in helping communities and small- and medium-sized enterprises to harvest and manufacture forest and non-timber forest products in a sustainable manner, and market these goods to responsible businesses and consumers. The Kleinhans Fellowship provides US$20 thousand over two years for research on this topic in Latin America, with preference for sites where Rainforest Alliance currently supports community forestry.

Tinker Foundation - Sustainable Resource Management in Latin America
Summary: Tinker's program of Institutional Grants supports the theme of sustainable resource management (among others) in Latin America. Particular issues of interest include sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry and non-timber forest products, sustainable tourism, fisheries management, and payment for environmental services. Tinker is also very interested in issues of water scarcity and quality for communities.

World Wildlife Fund U.S. - Educational Fellowships 2016
Summary:The Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program supports studies in conservation at masters and doctoral levels anywhere in the world. The 2016 fellowships focus on five priorities:
(i) Myanmar Fellowship (deadline 30 September 2015 - closed);
(ii) Building Capacity in Wildlife Science and Management (Bhutan, Cameroon, Dem Rep Congo, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Namibia, Tanzania, Vietnam, Zambia);
(iii) Building Capacity for Freshwater Conservation (Bolivia, Cambodia, Guatemala, Honduras, Laos, Nepal, Paraguay, Uganda, Zambia);
(iv) Conservation in Mozambique (Mozambique only); and
(v) Current and Aspiring University Faculty for Conservation (34 eligible countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America).

Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership - Masters Studies in Sustainable Energy
Summary: The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership comprises many of the world's largest energy companies in partnership with international organizations, development banks, institutes, and foundations. The program sponsors ESED (Education for Sustainable Energy Development) to support outstanding students from developing countries to pursue masters-level studies directly related to sustainable energy.

Summary: New Zealand's Pacific Development and Conservation Trust makes grants for conservation, cultural heritage, development, and goodwill in the Pacific Islands. The priority is community projects, including conservation projects that involve representative, endangered, threatened, or unique habitats and species.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) - Power Africa
Summary: Power Africa, is a program promoting investment in sustainable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa. The focus areas include small-scale power projects and rural electrification mini-grids; development or piloting of innovative energy technologies; regulatory and institutional reform in the power sector; financing strategies for power production; training, mentoring, and networking related to the power sector; and others.
Concept papers are welcome from multiple partners working in Sub-Saharan Africa, i.e., businesses, universities, NGOs, government institutions, and foundations.

Asia Leadership Fellow Program (ALFP) 2016 in Japan
Summary: Applications are invited collaborative and individual research/exchange activities. The ALFP is open to citizens of Northeast, Southeast and South-Asian countries and regions, aged 35 to 59, inclusive. During the program in Japan, the Fellows from diverse backgrounds reside in the center of Tokyo and actively engage in group discussions and dialogue with counterparts in Japan from different fields and sectors.
