50 ppm Diesel Launch in Mauritius

Mauritius is the first Sub-Saharan Africa country to achieve the PCFV sulphur target of 50 ppm for diesel fuels. In Africa, Mauritius is the third country to achieve 50 ppm diesel nationally after Morocco and Tunisia. This move to import 50 ppm diesel is a culmination of PCFV sponsored activities through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. Some of the activities supported by the PCFV include a low sulphur national workshop in November 2010; a media sensitization campaign that ran through 2011; and the formation of a multi-stakeholder national task team to oversee the implementation of low sulphur diesel and lower vehicle emissions.

Mauritius has progressively been lowering sulphur levels in diesel. In August 2010, the Government reduced sulphur levels in diesel fuels from 2500 ppm to 500 ppm.
