UNEP GFEI presentation
Fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels have become especially important in recent years in light of rising oil prices and growing international pressure to reduce CO2 emissions. Although most developed countries have implemented fuel efficiency standards, China is the only developing country in Asia with such standards. While fuel consumption of individual Southeast Asian countries is small compared to that of China or India, the motorization levels in Southeast Asia will continue to be larger than that of India or China for the next two decades.
