A lead phase out workshop in Tajikistan was held by the PCFV Clearinghouse on 16-17 October 2009
in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Facilitated by the Scientific Information Centre Interstate Sustainable Development Commission in Tajikistan, the workshop offers an additional opportunity for the PCFV to meet its goal of global elimination in the use of leaded fuel, as well as propose follow-up activities that are in line with its campaigns to clean up fuels and promote cleaner vehicles.
The 2-day workshop involved a number of government and research agencies, as well as a representative of Uzbekistan, which is finishing its lead phase-out campaign. Apart from discussing the phase-out of lead in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the workshop discussed: lowering Sulphur in fuels; implementing vehicle standards that would limit the age of second-hand imports and would require working catalytic converters; promoting public transport and non-motorised transport. The workshop agreed on a number of recommendations to be forwarded to the government for consideration.
