C-H continues work in Indonesia with Komite Penghapusan Bensin Bertimbel (KPBB)

The PCFV continues work in Indonesia through its partnership with Komite Penghapusan Bensin Bertimbel (KPBB), who is in the process of finalizing analysis on result of Blood Lead Level tests in 4 cities. The work is predicted to be completed in May 2008. This activity is being conducted jointly with the local university in the city.

Policy dialog, on introduction of catalytic converters in Surabaya City and Jakarta, are on-going as part of encouraging effectiveness in implementation of catalytic converter in new cars as per the Ministry of Environment Decree toward Emission Standard for New Vehicle. This decree mandated the auto industry to produce the only Euro 2 Standard motor vehicle effective 1 January 2005, requiring the use of catalytic vehicles to reach this standard. Furthermore, the decision of Pertamina, the national oil company, not to use ferrocene (an iron based octane booster) in its formulation of unleaded gasoline also supports the implementation of catalytic converters in vehicles due to the potential absence of fouling of these emission control devices.

KPBB is also in the process of completing a draft policy for the program on implementation of catalytic converter for in-used vehicle in both cities. KPBB targets to launch a program on voluntary fitted catalytic converters in-used vehicles in June 2009. Currently, KPBB have a donation of 100 unit catalytic converters from the private sector to support their program.
