Cleaner Fleet Management Training in Dubai and Hungary

CleanFleetIn September two cleaner fleet management training events will be organized by UNEP and the Clearing-House of the PCFV, targeting humanitarian aid agencies and fleet managers in central and eastern Europe.

From 8 - 10 September a three-day seminar will take place in Dubai where fleet managers from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) will come together to learn to use the Cleaner Fleet Management toolkit developed by UNEP and TNT in 2007 and to begin the development of customized cleaner fleet strategies. Participants will learn to evaluate the impacts of their fleets on the environment and on human health and to choose and apply practical tools and strategies for corrective and cost-effective actions - from eco-driving and improved maintenance through to advanced fuels and technologies. Working with international organization fleets is part of a larger initiative to green United Nation operations at headquarters and in the field, thus leading by example.

On 18 and 19 September, UNEP and the PCFV are teaming up with the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), based in Szentendre, Hungary, to provide a cleaner fleet training seminar for fleet managers in Hungary and surrounding countries. In addition, a day-long session is planned for REC transport officers at the national level - enabling participants to promote the use of the tool in their country programmes and operations. Country General Manager of TNT Express Turkey, Mr. Turgut Yildiz, will share his experience in applying the toolkit to clean up the TNT Turkey fleet - so far 80 TNT Turkey drivers have been trained on eco and safe driving, 122 vehicles (41% of fleet) replaced with cleaner models, monthly CO2 emission per vehicle dropped by 15% in 16 months, and a fuel cost saving of 100,000 Euro realized.

If you are interested in joining any of these training events, or if you would like to receive the Toolkit CD and User Guide, please contact pcfv@unep.org.
