PCFV holds workshop in Mongolia
The PCFV held a successful Clean Fuels and Vehicles workshop in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 30–31 July 2008.
The two-day workshop which was opened by Ms. Jargalsaikhan, Secretary, National Committee of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals in the Ministry of Nature and Environment was attended by 30 participants. The participants were drawn from the Ministries of Transport and Tourism, Fuel and Energy, Construction and Urban Development as well as the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority, National Ozone Authority, Traffic Police Authority and Ulaanbaatar City Environmental Protection Agency. Also present were representatives of industry—from Petrovis LLC, the largest fuel company—and academicians from the Academy of Sciences and the national university.
While initial investigations revealed that Mongolia imports largely unleaded gasoline, the workshop recommended the enactment of legal and regulatory standards to ensure complete phase-out of leaded gasoline. The workshop also proposed measures to restrict fuel additives used as octane enhancers. Also recommended was fuel testing and monitoring through the establishment of a laboratory, capacity building as well as working towards the adoption of Euro III standards for fuels and vehicles.
The workshop was held in partnership with the Ministry of Nature and Environment with the support of the UNEP Regional Office for Asia and Pacific, who also participated in the meeting. » More |
