EC, GEF, and USEPA step up support for GFEI

The EC and USEPA have joined the Global Environment Facility in supporting UNEP with an additional USD 2 million to support the development of clean and efficient policies in developing and transitional countries. UNEP is a founding partner of the GFEI and leads in national policy development for cleaner, more efficient vehicles.

According to Elisa Dumitrescu, UNEP Task Manager for the GFEI, “this additional support helps UNEP and its partners in the GFEI to develop practical, national-level solutions with countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia to address growing vehicle fleets and CO2 emissions from the road sector. The EC, USEPA and GEF backing will also allow us to leverage additional resources to ensure that more developing countries have access to best available policy and technology for cleaner, more efficient vehicles and lower pollutant and CO2 emissions. This technology and approach capitalizes on the rapidly improving fuel quality in these regions and we want to extend our recognition to the EC, GEF and USEPA for their continued investment.”
