A regional Clean Fuels and Vehicles workshop was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 22 – 23 April 2010 for countries belonging to South Asia Cooperative Environmental Programme – SACEP (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). A set of recommendations were drafted, covering public and non-motorised transport, Sulphur levels in fuels, regional harmonisation of vehicle standards, inspection programmes and second-hand vehicle importations. These recommendations will be presented for approval at the SACEP Ministerial meeting in August.

A national Clean Fuels and Vehicles workshop, chaired by CAI-Asia, was held on 19 May 2010 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The primary focus was on generating further momentum in improving fuel quality in Pakistan.

As a follow-up to a Clean Fuels and Vehicles workshop chaired by CAI-Asia and held in Vietnam in November 2009, a consultancy will be commissioned to work with the Vietnam Register to develop a road map for vehicle emission standards and to assist the Vietnam Quality and Standards Center to develop the fuel quality specifications in parallel.

For the third quarter, workshops are planned for China and Bangladesh.
