UNEP International Tree Planting Week in the Philippines

Cari L. Azores,
Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation (FSLF) San Pablo City,
PHILIPPINES

The celebration of the UNEP International Tree Planting week, held on September 24, 2006, was conducted in cooperation with the San Pablo City Medical Society. Our JB Juan Samuel Loyola and 14 other FSLF Youth and Kids participated in the activity, along with the doctors and their families.

We met up at 6:30 a.m. at the lakeshore of Sampaloc Lake, the largest of the seven lakes in our city. From there, we proceeded to Malabanban Watershed, about 15 minutes away by car. We climbed up the mountain and planted trees along sites chosen by the guides. More than 200 trees were planted during the two-hour activity.

Tree planting activities are held regularly at our Watershed in which our youth and kids participate. Most recently, on June 17, 2006, the FSLF Kids and Youth participated in a tree planting activity in which 500 trees were planted along with our City Councilor and off-duty policemen.
