The Beachly Environmental Grant
Kate Charters, Sarah Charters and Millicent Burgraff, AUSTRALIA
Kate, Sarah and Millicent flew to Sydney and were presented with the Beachley Environmental Grant. Layne Beachley spoke glowingly about the work Kate, Sarah and Millicent had been doing and presented them with wonderful plaques as well.
She was so impressed with their application that she donated the money personally for their $3000 grant, not Aim For The Stars and this is why it is called the Beachley Environmental Grant. 200 applications were received and only 12 grants were given to girls from 12 to 24 and their group was 3 of the 12.
The girls were on morning TV and met many famous people at the presentation all of whom were very impressed with their environmental message The 2005 UNEP Children’s Conference and the 2006 Malaysian Conference were mentioned in front of the audience of 400 people by Layne Beachley, the 6 time World Surfing Champion, so the girls have done their bit to promote the Conferences as pledged.
