Encouraging Children in Tree Planting Initiatives

Naylee Nagda has been working hard to inspire young people while making a difference in rehabilitating forests. She has done a lot to teach children about the effects of environmental destruction and what can be done about it.

Naylee recently encouraged the children of Huruma Estate, (a slum area near the Karura Forest) to take care of trees by watering them from a nearby river, and explained how to use alternative sources of energy instead of firewood. She played her part by explaining that destroying the forest would lead to a lack of rain in the region and possible starvation due to drought.

Along with encouraging and inspiring children and youth, Naylee took time to plant trees with the Nation Media Group in Karura Forest, after she had won a prize for the primary school category of a photography competition. Through this she has been making an effort to illustrate the effects of destruction in Karura Forest and she has been able to make a difference in an effort to rehabilitate the area.
