Tunza Conference Kicks off in Bangalore, India!

Participants listening to a speaker at the ice breaker session

Over 150 youth leaders from 67 countries are met in Bangalore, India, for the UNEP Tunza International Youth Conference, with the theme ‘the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and cooperation among youth organizations.

The conference begun with an ice breaking session began on a very high note with the TYAC advisors being introduced to the participants and facilitating the sessions. All the participants headed outside the conference center to play an eco game to give them a chance to relax, and to know each other better. During the section Theo Oben and Gopal presented the conference objectives and agenda to the participants paying particular attention to emphasizing the importance of learning from each other as much as having a good time. The day was concluded with regional meetings facilitated by the TYAC advisors. These meetings would give all participants a chance to form long lasting regional networks and localize the conference themes – MDG on a regional level.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to share experiences with delegates from Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guana and Columbia. I think it was amazing because we found that even though we were in the same region there were different incredible and successful projects. I think we are going to create a regional branch.
