Despite these great functions, forests are being cleared at a very fast rate as a result of; construction of highways, dam construction, mining, commercial logging, settlements, fire, pollution, and agriculture.

Effects of destroying forests

Droughts, floods, soil erosion, and desertification.

Changes in climate leading to global warming.

Loss of plants and animals (biodiversity).

Famine and poverty.

Loss of jobs.

Conflicts over fertile lands.
