An
increasing number of people are being forced to move to cities in search
of better jobs and better living conditions. This process which is known
as urbanization occurs everywhere in the world. However, cities in developing
countries (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean)
are growing the fastest.
This
increase of population in cities requires the improvement of basic facilities
such as: public
transport services, hospitals, water supply, housing and employment
opportunities.
Unfortunately,
many of these countries cannot be able to expand those basic facilities
to cope with the increase in population.
