The
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was created in 1972, when
the General Assembly of the United Nations passed Resolution
2997 on Institutional and Financial Arrangements for International
Environmental Cooperation, in line with the recommendations of the Stockholm
Convention of December 1972.
It is the mission of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to:
"
provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment
by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve
their quality of life without compromising that of future generations."
