Environmental Mandate |
The mission of the United Nations University is to contribute, through research and capacity building, to efforts to resolve the pressing global problems that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. The UNU aims to fulfil its mission by performing five key roles that are based on the mandate given to the University by its Charter: to be an international community of scholars; to form a bridge between the United Nations and the international academic community; to serve as a think-tank for the United Nations system; to contribute to capacity building, particularly in developing countries;toa platform for dialogue and new and creative ideas.
United Nations University focuses on the interactions between human activities and the natural environment and their implications for sustainable human development. The basic issues of human survival, development and welfare are at the core of the themes covered within the realm of UNU. In implementing its activities, UNU makes special efforts to include global perspectives as well as from the countries with economies in transition. Networking and capacity development, particularly in the developing countries, are given high priority. |
