Southern Africa Sub-regional Policy Dialogue on Air Pollution
Lusaka, Zambia, 5-6 March 2008

World Urban Forum

The meeting, which was follow-up to the regional conference on Better Air Quality in sub-Saharan African Cities (BAQ-SSA) that was held in 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya and APINA's (Air Pollution Information Network for Africa) work in the sub-region, had a policy session (5-6 March) and a ministerial one ( 7 March 2008). All the 14 SADC countries participated. The meeting was jointly organized by UNEP, APINA , Stockholm Environment Institute and USEPA.

A draft Policy Framework recommending actions to be taken by the sub-region to address increasing air pollution in key areas was developed and adopted by the Ministers at the meeting. The Policy Framework will be presented to all SADC Ministers for consideration into the SADC Environment Protocol. Attached is the draft policy framework and the presentation made at the Ministerial session.
