On the occasion of WED this year, the Glen Planters in Brisbane, Australia plan to plant native trees and shrubs in the lowland area of the glen. More than 800 items are planted each year.

East Perth
On the occasion of WED, the Environment Subcommittee of the United Nations Association in Australia -Western Australian Division (UNAA-WA) is having an international treeplanting on the banks of Henley Brook, near Perth, Western Australia. Henley Brook is a significant tributary of the Swan River, Western Australia's major waterway. The event is being sponsored by a major bank, Westpac Bank, Australia, and many of the Westpac staff will join the team of planters. More than 80 people are expected to be involved, from well known international company Ikea, to representatives from the Embassies and Trade Commissions, and the Overseas Students from the major universities. The aim is to join with the already vigorous and increasing number of Associations who are salvaging the river from its degraded status, and making it once more a pristine waterway which flows through the heart of Western Australia's capital city.

Gecko - Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council are once again hosting the regional World Environment Day 'do!' community festival, to celebrate our precious Planet Earth. The 'do!' will showcase environmental products and solutions, and will feature fantastic music and live performances, childrens' activities, market stalls, gourmet food, an art gallery and government and industry representation. The 'do!' is a free, family celebration, and is held on the banks of the beautiful Currumbin Estuary on the Gold Coast. It is a wondrous and wonderful celebration of community, environment and culture, and is a focal point in our remembering that 'what we do changes the world!'

Hawkesdale P12 College is organizing a "Students Living Sustainably" conference on the occasion of World Environment Day. It involves 300 students between the ages of 10 and 15 from five schools. The opening address will be by Arron Woods (environmental scientist and Young Australian of the Year 2001). Students will be divided into twelve groups and take part in four 30 minute workshops, one from each of the themes Water, Waste, Biodiversity and Energy. After a "waste - wise" lunch, students will present the work they have been doing in their own classes during terms 1 and 2.

The Upper Gwydir Landcare Association in conjunction with Gwydir Shire Council is organising an exhibition at the Roxy Theatre Bingara, to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5th. Alcoa Portland Aluminium will be hosting an event on Thursday 2 June 2005 to celebrate the United Nations World Environment Day. The event will bring together (10) local primary schools and (15) community partners to share and experience environmental learning. Up to 350 students will be invited to Portland Aluminium to participate in many exciting environmental activities and also be treated to a waste wise/healthy lunch. The purpose of the event is to support environmental education and the development of future environmental leaders. It is also to showcase Alcoa Portland Aluminium's commitment to conservation and sustainability. To mark World Environment Day, Wollongong City Council is organizing an Enviro Festival aimed at providing a range of environmental experience which can be linked to the Environmental Curriculum for the K-6 syllabus. This year the Centre is organising drawing and painting competition, which will be launched on 16 January 2005 and an essay competetion to be launched on 23 January 2005. The competitions will be among school students in the state capital, Bhubaneswar, and the expected number of participants is approximately 600.

The drawing, painting and essay competitions will also be organised in 4,500 eco-club schools, mainly in rural areas. The deadline will be 30 April 2005, and the expected number of participants is 45,0000 students! In addition, some 4,500 students have been requested to make scientific models based on this year's theme Plan For The Planet.

On 5 June 2005, a function will be organised in Bhubaneswar and the Honorable Chief Minister of Orissa is expected to grace the occasion at which an exhibition will be organized to showcase selected entries of the drawing and painting competition, as well as the scientific models.

The Centre is in the process of selecting individuals and organisations who have done good environmental conservation work in the State, and on WED itself 30 individuals will be presented with the "Prakriti Bandhu" (Friend of Environment) award and 30 organisations will be given the "Prakruti Mitra" (Dearest friend of Environment) award. The winners of the competitions will also be awarded.

In the last year, Batulicin has become a coal mining town. A lot of people come with various activities and a lot of land is disturbed and a lot of waste and rubbish created. In Indonesia the main source of air pollution is vehicles emmision. That's why on World Environment Day 2005, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Tangerang Municipality will measure public vehicles emmisions. The measurement will be undertaken free of charge in order to enhance public awareness of the need to maintain their vehicles properly to prevent air pollution. The WED events will take place over two days - 6 and 7 June. The EPA will also distribute posters, leaflets and stickers, which describe how important it is to maintain vehicles.

To commemorate World Environment Day, Green Marketing ( Main Organizer) World of Colours (Joint Organizer) are organizing a Colour Event, which will be held at a few mega shopping malls in Malaysia . Thousands of children and adults will be invited to participate in the event . As a memento, all paricipants will receive a special edition of a WED 2005 box of recycled coloured pencils as well as a Wed 2005 Do it YourSelf Key Chain. They will also receive a Certificate of Participation. The effort is in support of the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia.

The event is coordinated by the youth officials of the DENR, in partnership with the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd). The Eco Youth Summit is a three-day event designed to strengthen the involvement of the youth in environmental issues. Students from different high schools, colleges and universities of the region will take part in the summit. It will include workshops, lectures, outdoor activities, plenary sessions and group discussions.
