Aqaba To mark World Environment Day 2007, Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) carried out a clean- up of the Southern beach. The event was held on 5 – 7 June and involved about 10 different groups in the community, including schools, youth clubs and diving shops. An estimated 200 people took part.

Environment and Development magazine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture in Lebanon, organized a National School Ceremony on the occasion of World Environment Day 2007. The event took place at the theatre of UNESCO Palace in Beirut on 6 June 2007, at 10 am.
The program involved:
Presentations by members of the Student Clubs and Youth Environment Parliament of reports they prepared on environmental situation in Lebanon
Documentary on hot environmental topics prepared by students
Music with nature theme played by ACS high school symphonic band
Distribution of environment art awards.
At the same time, and in the same venue, an exhibition of the winning drawings and photos in a competition organized in 2006 - 2007 by Environment and Development magazine, in cooperation with UNEP/ROWA, under the title ME AND THE ENVIRONMENT took place .
Copies of the June 2007 issue of the magazine, with a cover story on World Environment Day 2007 theme: Melting Ice - a Hot Topic?, was distributed during the event.

Beirut Youth Environment Parliament (YEP) celebrated World Environment Day 2007 in a ceremony held at the premises of Environment & Development magazine in Beirut. A United Nations Environment Programme documentary on climate change was screened. YEP showed a documentary prepared by the students. The event was accompanied by a display of award-winning paintings and drawings in a nation-wide contest organized by a magazine under the title: Me and the Environment.
Winners of the painting and drawing competition were awarded. UNEP’s regional director Dr. Habib El-Habr sent a statement to the meeting: just how much hotter does the topic of climate change need to become before governments across the globe commit to acting together. A show under the theme: Impact of War on the Environment was inaugurated, in cooperation with the UNEP. The show was on display until 8 June. The displays will go on a road-show to be hosted by 50 schools in Lebanon and the region between September-December 2007.

Srifa
A school education health campaign in Srifa Public School started in March. The main expected result of the campaign is the spreading of information on the correct behaviours on personal, domestic and environment issues (water use, solid waste management, etc.). On 5 June a movie on environment and natural resources in Lebanon was shown to pupils and a drawing competition launched. The students have started to decorate the school boundary wall with drawings related to the environmental issues.
