Gold Coast
Global Video Web Conferencing FREE For UN WED Registered Organizations or Group/s. We invite you and your environment / community / small business group to once again enjoy our free video conferencing services in order to organize your activity. In addition, educating businesses and the community at large on how online video web conference technologies can eliminate the need for unnecessary travel altogether. By employing video web conferencing and even changing our working culture whereby more employees become teleworkers from home can make a big difference too. Engaging these technologies on a wider scale in the larger cities would see less peak hour traffic congestion volumes, create more productive time for employees with the added benefit of less energy consumed and less Co2 emissions being added to the atmosphere. Video web conferencing can be conducted with individuals in your nearest neighborhood or indeed in multiple countries around the world simultaneously. All you need is an internet connection and a headset to participate with an optional webcam. To have your video web conference room activated, contact us via our contact page on our website AFTER you have registered your activity with UN WED. Please provide your name and country and after we verify your activity is registered, we will deliver your conference room details via email. Together we can plan a better future for our planet.

Jervis Bay World Environ Fest 2009-The Kiss will unite the celebrations of World Environment Day and World Ocean Day focusing on the inter-relationship between our fossil fuel consumption and industrial processes and Co2 emissions and global warming and the impact it is having on our marine environment. Ocean Acidification (occurring when CO2 in the atmosphere reacts with water to create carbonic acid) has already increased ocean acidity by 30 percent. The impact of this for our marine and human ecosystems is only beginning to be uncovered. The Kiss -Jervis Bay will raise awareness of the steps our coastal community can take to reduce Co2 emissions through a display, demonstrations and a showcase of eco-friendly products. The Marine Mammal Research team will involve the community in the Sea of Whale Tails art installation to raise awareness of whale conservation. We will also be celebrating the first birthday of Muriyira, the Shoalhaven's adopted whale under IFAW's Humpback Whale Migration Icon Project. I have founded and developed a project to promote the conservation and resurrection of endangered seed trees and to develop the area known as the "Best Urban Oasis of Asia" (according to Time Magazine) called Bangkrajao, of Bangkok.  Bangkok is a conglomeration of approximately 11 million people, modern office buildings and large industries - Bangkrajao, the last large plot of a clean an d green environment left, is considered to be the city's "lungs". "The Giving Greens"project focuses on establishing a permanent plot for expanding the vital seed trees in the area so that a variety of seeds and saplings can be collected. Everything that is planted in this plot aims not only to be enduring, but also to be useful to the locals. I have been raising funds from various private and public sectors, and will be planting an initial phase of 2,000 trees in the Bangkrajao area.

Plantation of tree saplings:  Due to shortage of space and Water this year in our residential campus in and all around the city , plantation was the big problem , somewhere we got space but water was scarce and somewhere water was available but no security  for grow, hence and owing to this we were unable to plants in our pre decided place therefore a safe and favorable places was required for plantation and  so after discussion and brainstorming Swarna Jayanti Park came to our mind and we took decision that our desired activity can take place in the park.  We visited the place and talked to deputy forest ranger in charge of the park and took his consent for the said event  and  dug out and prepared land  for plantation.
In the evening our members came, the youngest one name Aditiya (4 years old) planted first plant namely Tacoma,  the others members planted their saplings which were earlier distributed.   12 saplings were planted namely Peepal, Kaner, Askoke, Saptaparni, Neem, Gudhal, Gulmohar etc. (local name) in the park by the members by their own hands to see as tree in future.
Than on this year WED theme i.e. on Climate change, a very interesting awareness material was distributed to all members. This kit was sponsored by Center of Environment Education (CEE, Ahmedabad ) local office. I am really thankful to CEE’s Mr. Joseph and Mr. Deelip for their noteworthy cooperation.

On this World Environment Day 2009, individuals in Goa will start planting Neem saplings and try to meet the target of at least 14 lakh Neem trees in the immediate future. NEEM (Azadirachta indica) is said to have antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial properties, a natural pesticide and insect repellant, air purifier, used in various skin conditions, cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, etc. But the most interesting aspect is it's ability to purify the air and the temperature in its shade is believed to be a few degrees lower than the surrounding temperature. These Neem trees probably may have the immediate solution to the increasing temperature at least for the next 100 years (life span of Neem trees). As part of this eco-friendly drive, let us encourage all cooperative housing societies in Goa to plant Neem trees, compost their waste, make use of rain water harvesting and harness solar energy. This drive has been conceptualized by Dr. Delia Dsouza for Goa, you are all welcome to join in and we can soon have at least 14 lakh Neem trees (Goa's population), making us the first state in the world to do so.

Satara
The rains have not yet arrived in these parts of the country but we expect it in this week.  We have collected a lot of seeds of fruits eaten during the rainy season including mange, jackfruit, jamun, and many more. The members of our organization are going to release a press note today and invite all those interested to throw the seeds over land owned by the government in and arkound satara at distances less than 5, km from the city. The rains on arriving will last for 4 months and many trees which have sprouted will survive.

We also plan to take care of some of them which are strong and healthy by watering them during the winter and summer months. Many people are also willing to adopt one tree which they will grow in their garden or in temples where they visit daily. We are planning to use the plastic bottles to help in survival of the plants. The bottles with their mouth cut and with two or three holes if burried near the base of the plant during winter and summer can be filled with water which will filter slowly and will ensure the survival of the plant.

Hunza

Speakers during walks, commemorating world environment day, stressed governmental and international agencies to help the local communities in combating climate change effects. They demanded the government to develop a scientific solid waste management mechanism in order to maintain the beauty and attraction of the valley. They said the local communities and their livelihood are in threat due to glacial lake outburst floods and other disasters.
The Walks were organized under the Hunza Environmental Committee (HEC), a project of Karakoram Area Development organization (KADO) with the collaboration of Programme for Mountain Area Conservancy, Karimabad Town Management Society and Gojal Rural Development Organization and Nasirabad Social Welfare Organisation in Aliabad, Karimabad, Gulmit, Nasirabad and Sost. These walks were participated by hundreds of students, political representatives, representatives of members of civil society organisation, Boy Scouts, Girls Guides and Volunteers.
Zameer Abbas, Assistant Commissioner Hunza was the Chief Guest of the rally in Gulmit whereas Mr.Ameer Khan Tehsildar Aliabad and Brig. Hisamullah Baig Vice Chairman Rupani Foundation were Chief Guests in rallies at Aliabad and Karimabad respectively.
The speakers appreciated KADO for running the country’s first community-based solid waste management project in Hunza. On request of KADO, the local administration announced ban on the sale of over-weight chickens in Hunza and construct public toilets in main commercial areas. They also assured to shift the transport adda to new location in order to avoid pollution due to traffic flow.
Meanwhile, HEC lodged a two-week special environmental awareness campaigns through local cable channels in local languages in order to sensitise the local community regarding the contemporary environmental issues. Hundreds of Scouts, Girls Guides and Volunteers also participated the Cleanliness moots and campaigns in all forty six villages in Hunza valley. During these moots they cleaned the streets, water channels, water tanks and markets.
It is here to mention that Hunza Environmental Committee (HEC) was formed in December 1997 as a community response to the civic needs of the growing tourist and business towns of Hunza, where in the absence of any Municipality, the issue of solid waste management was
getting out of control and there was no mechanism to arrest the situation and manage the problem. The prime objective is to keep Hunza clean by developing a solid waste disposal system and to undertake environmental awareness programmes. HEC executes the first and only community-based municipal agency in the country. Its approach to solid waste management is distinctive in that it has used the voluntarism of a local NGO, with the social responsibility of the private sector and has ascertained close cooperation from the local government.

To celebrate World Environment Day, a small group of employees from several departments and contractors conducted a shoreline cleanup at Bgy. Malobago, one of the host communities of the project and where the wharf is located. Soft launching of the following projects aligned with the project's EMS and responding to the challenge of the Philippine Environment Month theme "Cleaning the Air for a Safer Climate: What Would it Take?" and WED 2009 theme "Your Planet Needs You - UNite to Combat Climate Change" was also done:

  1. Use of stainless steel food containers to replace food boxes for takeout meals. On the average, 600 pieces of boxes are used and disposed everyday. This will not only reduce the volume of wastes generated but also save a lot of money for the company. Cost of one stainless container will pay off in less than a month
  2. Intensive campaign to reduce and avoid use of plastic "sando bags" within the camp and encourage the use of eco-friendly bags;
  3. Physical counting of trees planted since the start of the project operation and register with UNEP's (United Nations Environment Programme) Billion Tree Campaign 2009 The EMS Day which is observed annually since its inception in 2008 was held on June 17 with these activities:
  4. 2nd EMS Quiz show. Topics were mainly on environmental science and ISO 14001;
  5. Awarding of the Best EMS Internal Auditor and Best Performing Area;
  6. Awarding of the Best Eco-friendly bag.

Cagayan
I care for the environment not only for a day but throughout my lifetime. Gardening has always been my passion since I was a kid. Give me a pot or a plot, and up grows a flower or a vegetable garden. Our house is thus surrounded by ornamentals, vines, flowering shrubs, assorted fruit trees, birds/cats/dogs/other pets collection, a fishpond, and even a "hanging" vegetable garden in the roof deck. Guests say our place is like a jungle. Fruits in season fall off from trees and have fed neighbors/friends. Every refuse is reused. Rainwater is collected from downspouts into covered big jars for watering and cleaning. Soapy water from dishwashing or handwashing is collected for cleaning. Dead leaves become fertilizers. Unused gravel become landscape decor. Clean and green; use refuse and reuse; walk not drive; stargaze not drugs - all these are my lifetime personal advocacy to save our planet in my own personal quiet way.

Ever thought of the number of hours you spend in the office and the amount of resources used per day? Simple actions such as the flick of a switch can make a world of difference. Try going green in your office for a day on Eco Action Day with us and see how easy it is! Eco Action Day is collaboration between Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and Ricoh to reach out to organizations to join us in saving energy on 5 June, in conjunction with the United Nations' World Environment Day. By taking part, organizations pledge conservation activities that they will undertake on this day. The scope of activities is not limited and can be as easy as turning off all the lights in the office during lunch time. Total energy saved is then calculated after this day as evidence that real improvements are possible if companies will make the commitment.

Long Xuyen

“Activities attracted more than 200 students and lecturers in An Giang University, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province, Vietnam. They came to the day for matches: fashion show (clothes from wastes), products reused from wastes. The students were very excited with products made from wastes. These activities are as promotions for students to consider simple ways to contribute to environmental protection. During events, they had presentations and debated issues related to impacts of climate change and how to respond to it. The meeting also got participated from lecturers in the Faculty of Technology and Environment. The lecturers provided presentations on climate change adaptation and encouraged students to be pro-active in environmental problems at local level as well as global level. Beside the events in the university, the students and lecturers in the university also opened talks with local community around the university on role of community for environmental protection. A-day event brought much benefit for the university and local community in environmental protection and climate change awareness”
