Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).The Health, Safety, and Environment Team belongs to the Technical Services Directorate [HSE (TS)], and serves the directorate from the HSE perspective. To commemorate World Environment Day 2009, HSE (TS) Team is sending out an online survey a couple of days before the event to assess colleagues' awareness and attitudes towards energy saving practices that contribute to the welfare of the environment. Employee’s responses will be statistically categorized and electronically presented to them accompanied by brief clarifications of the survey's questions and the optimum energy saving method in each case. On the day of the event, an online presentation will be sent out explaining: -What the "Green House Effect" is, -How we are affected by it, and -What we can do as individuals to combat climate change.

Al-Sayer Group is pleasured to take the opportunity of the World Environment Day celebrations world wide to honor the winners of the Al-Sayer Contest for the best environmental performance,
 
Participated in this competition from 24 schools (600 Students) all over Kuwait was chosen the best school from each Governorate,
 
The competition included many of the important environmental issues of the dissemination of environmental awareness in the vicinity of the school, the Waste Segregation from the source, the school's efforts to conservation the consumption of electric power and water.
 
The Schools participation was very effective and reflects the strong desire of all segments of the Kuwaiti society to contribute in the efforts to preserve the environment.

World Environment Day is commemorated each year on 5 June to stimulate worldwide awareness on environmental issues and enhances attention and action from all quarters. In line with this, American Society of Safety Engineers, Kuwait Chapter has been commemorating this event for the past 7 years. We are glad to inform you, to celebrate this occasion we are organizing a technical meet on 14 June 2009. The event will feature environmental awareness presentations from eminent personalities in Kuwait and it will be in line with the World Environment Day' theme “Your Planet Needs You! MES Indian School, Doha-Qatar celebrated World Environment Day by involving Eco-Ambassadors, Green Ambassadors, Scouts and Guides under coordination of Shakil Ahmed Kakvi, Coordinator, Scientific and Environmental Affairs of the School.

“Give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.” speaking on the occasion Kakvi stressed on WED  theme of this year   'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change'.

Soheb Salim Eco-Ambassador introduced the speakers and expressed his concern about Global Warming and Climate change while Green Ambassadors presented their paper on Energy conservation.

F.M. Basheer Ahmed, Principal, congratulated all participants and assured his support in protecting our fragile Environment. A.P. Sasidharan, Sr.V.P told children to adopt green habits.Mrs.Aliyama Methew,Mrs.Hameeda Kadar,Mrs.Nasreen Samad Khan,Mrs Suja Verghese spoke on this occasion.

Scouts and Guides organized cycle rally on environmental awareness in which more than five hundred students took part with posters, play card and information brochure related to conservation of Water and Electricity.

At the end of the program campus cleaning program was organized.

International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID) and the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) in Qatar strengthen its commitment to increase general awareness on environmental issues by organizing a series of events to celebrate the World Environment Day 2009, supported by Faber Castell and Virginia Commonwealth University.

This initiative is taken under the auspices of Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of FEC. Events in Qatar:

  • 22 May 09 - Painting Workshop to be conducted by Mr. Kipp Greene & Mr. Donald Earley from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU-Q) for over 200 students from various schools in Qatar;
  • 22-23 May 09 - Speech Contest for students representing each school to compete in two (2) age categories with the theme "Your Planet Needs You";
  • 29-30 May 09 - Painting Contest for students from various schools/colleges with a special category for adults. Over 1500 participants expected to attend the contest this year;
  • 30 May 09 - Free Seminar on WED to be presented by the students of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU-Q), Mr. Muqeem Khan from VCU-Q & Ms. Maya Saikali from Waqif Art Center;
  • 6 June 09 - Painting Exhibition & Award Ceremony at Qatar National Theatre for the winners of the painting and speech contest with a performance by the artistes of IAID.

TNT Saudi Arabia, celebrated the WED – World Environment Day at its Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran locations.

TNT SAB Express raises a call for all staff to get involved in the World Environment day activity as part of its belief standard in caring about environment and social responsibilities. The day celebrated under the theme of “Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change” TNT / SAB Express Saudi Arabia took a step forward to contribute towards the preservation of the environment on the occasion of the World Environment Day. TNT staff from JED, RUH and DHA offices participated in planting more than 500 trees in the community parks, school and streets. The municipality staff appreciated such initiative and supports it gladly. TNT realizes that the climate changing is the challenge facing humanity today, and it is everyone’s responsibility to help, so the Tree planting is the symbolic exercise for rising and promoting environment friendly culture.
        On this World Environment Day, TNT would like to encourage all people to take concrete steps toward making the planet greener and cleaner. It is our home and we share responsibilities to make it a true "Sweet Home".

Yanbu
On the occasion of World Environment Day 2009, the Environmental Department sponsored by Cristal company, has implemented a larger and longer-diving campaign to clean the bottom of the Red Sea coast of Yanbu City on Thursday 4 June 2009, Where the campaign began at 7:00 am and continued until 12:00 am in Albathna marina. The participation of more than 100 divers from inside and outside Yanbu Industrial city. Cleaning process took place with 20divers taking turns every half hour during the campaign.  More than 2 tons of various waste was collected. In the evening more than 200 students from Yanbu schools took part in the campaign to clean up the beach Note: the diving campaign will continue every Thursday of each week for 8 weeks, until 30 July 2009.

  • Eco-tourism trip under the slogan: "Ecotourism ! Leaves no Traces behind";
  • Involving different sectors of society, to promoting the urgent need to unite to combat climate change, the event will involve schoolchildren, students, media personnel, individuals, ecologist and forest experts. The reason of the Eco-tourism trip is to bring awareness among people about forests value, climate change and of the need for a united response to fight it. - Tree-planting drive in the area that was destroyed by forest fire near the Frounlok preserve areas;
  • A cleaning campaign in Latakia.

TECOM Investments, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding, that owns and operates free trade zones set up to support the development of knowledge-based industries. As part of its commitment to the environment, employees of TECOM Business Parks and Business Partners participated in the United Nations' Environment Program (UNEP) 'Billion Tree Campaign'. In this regard, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department (SEED) arranged to provide packets of seeds at the main receptions of different TECOM Business Parks buildings for employees and Business Partners to collect. The tree we chose to plant is the 'Ghaf' Tree, which is a symbol of Arab heritage. The Ghaf tree is one of the few trees that grow wild in the deserts of the UAE. The benefits of this tree range from fodder, to medicinal uses. It has very long tap roots which allows it to seek and take water from underground reservoirs.
