Take A Stand for the GorillasThe recently released rapid assessment report, called The Last Stand of the Gorilla, raises the alarm on the potential loss of the gorillas from most of their present range in 10 to 15 years. Despite some progress in conservation and cross-boundary collaboration, the high rate of poaching and habitat loss still outweighs present efforts. The fate of the great apes is closely tied to ours as they inhabit some of the last remaining tropical rainforests – ecosystems that not only assist in supplying us with water, food and medicine but also play a global role in carbon sequestration and thus combating climate change. On WED, we call on everyone, everywhere to Take A Stand for the Gorillas! Let us come together to support the protection and conservation of gorillas in Rwanda – this year’s WED global host country. For every activity or positive environmental action organized – whether by individuals or groups, communities, businesses, NGOs, and governments – and registered on the WED website, $10 will go toward gorilla protection. Our target is to reach a minimum donation of US$50,000 and we count on your support to make this happen. As a united global WED community, this will be our shared legacy. It is our way of saying that our individual actions, when galvanized, can have an exponential impact. So take a stand for the gorillas! Register your WED activity now!!!
