iPhones up!

UNEP has partnered with TreeHugger and Piictu in an exciting initiative that involves expressing yourself through pictures for World Environment Day. Using your iPhone, you can take pictures of the environment around you and instantly post them into a stream of other similar images being taken by people around the world.
The partnership launched its first stream (theme) last week entitled “The Environment Speaks” and, for example, Piictu users have been uploading various pictures with post sticks in them that spell out what the photographer thinks the plant or object in the image would be saying at that instant. Current submissions include a leafless tree in the vicinity of an evergreen plant saying, “Everyone got naked in the fall! Except for that stubborn Evergreen…”, a bowl of fruit declaring, “Eat me, Not McDonalds!”, a fed up tree threatening, “If one more dog comes by…”,and a desk plant suggesting, “I look better outside.”
Piictu is a mobile application platform that provides an innovative way of interacting with your friends via photos. Simply download the app onto your phone, search for @WorldEnvironmentDay, snap a pic, and upload to watch it come to life. It’s a fun and easy way to communicate.
In partnership with UNEP and TreeHugger, Piictu is initiating streams for World Environment Day on its app. While Piictu is not a campaign or competition, the best pictures on selected streams will occasionally receive small prizes, such as an exclusive World Environment Day t-shirt that is autographed by Gisele Bündchen – UNEP’s Goodwill Ambassador.
The Piictu app is currently only available for iPhones. If you are already on Piictu, search for @WorldEnvironmentDay and join in the fun.
