3-4 June - District Department of the Environment/Earth’s Natural Force World Environment Day Fair and Expo

What:
- Students, their families and the general public are invited to participate in a range of activities
- Dozens of environmental groups and green businesses will be on hand to display their achievements and encourage others to adopt a green lifestyle
3 June - Earth Force Youth Summit
Where: Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC
What:
- Middle school students will share and celebrate their environmental and civic action projects and enjoy a day of hands-on learning
- 10 finalist classrooms in the ‘Caring for Our Watersheds’ contest will present their projects
4 June - Bayer Interactive Science Workshops with Dr. Mae Jemison
Where: Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC
What:
- Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African-American female astronaut in space, will lead an interactive workshop on science for high school students as part of the youth outreach component of World Environment Day.
- The event, sponsored by Bayer Corporation’s Making Science Make Sense programme, promotes science literacy among young adults.
4 June - UNEP/Bayer International Children’s Painting Competition Award Ceremony
Where: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Washington, DC
What:
- Annual International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment, in which children ages 6 to 14 submit original works of art based on a yearly theme.
- First and second place winners are invited to Washington, D.C. to receive their awards.
- Top 70 finalist paintings will be on display at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library through the summer
5 June - UNEP/ U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)/World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Sustainable Cities Panel and World Environment Day Reception
Where: U.S. Green Building Council Offices, Washington, DC
What:
- Theme - Sustainable Cities and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20)
- Reception immediately follows the panel discussion
6 June - UNEP Regional Launch of the GEO5 Report

- 14 June - Mayor’s Sustainability Awards
- What: Awards will recognize outstanding individuals, businesses, schools, institutions, and organizations for their environmental leadership and contributions to the Mayor's vision that the District becomes the greenest, healthiest, and most livable city in the nation.
