World Environment Day - Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level

Saving Beaches in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, WED is all about preserving the country’s beautiful beaches from plastic pollution.

Odel, a fashion brand and retailer based in Colombo, will hold an ECOART Festival on the 7th and 8th of June at the Odel Alexandra Place. Twenty schools will be displaying crafts and exhibits inspired by WED. The art will use all manner of waste material polluting beaches, to remind everyone of the dire need to save the oceans. At the atrium of the mall, a 10-foot art installation of an ocean ‘maiden’ is already in place. Dressed in an elaborate frock fashioned out of plastic bottles sourced from polluted beaches, the maiden represents actions of individuals reaching out to the world for the oceans and for WED.

Odel employees and customers will also be engaged in cleaning up the Galle Face Beach strip on the 31st of May with the assistance of the Department of Coast Conservation Sri Lanka.
