Building on ongoing efforts to address plastic pollution, the Circular Cities Beyond Plastic project convened its second regional webinar under the Intercity Network on Plastics Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean. The session brought together city representatives, technical experts and partners to exchange knowledge and identify scalable solutions for circular plastic management.

The webinar, focused on innovations in circular plastic management, showcased practical experiences from across the region that are contributing to more sustainable and inclusive urban systems.

Federico Restrepo presented Ecogiro, a programme aimed at accelerating the transition towards circular economy models through innovation and cross-sector partnerships. José Solar shared the experience of EcoCarga, highlighting how refill systems can reduce single-use plastics while promoting responsible consumption. Andrea Paiz, representing the Buenos Aires Recycling Center, outlined the city’s approach to strengthening plastic recovery through improved infrastructure and operational processes. Claudia Andrade, from RecVeci, emphasized the importance of inclusive models that integrate informal workers and stakeholders across the plastics value chain.

Participants underscored the importance of innovation, collaboration and integrated approaches as key enablers to scale circular solutions. Discussions highlighted that effective implementation requires not only technological advancements, but also supportive policy frameworks, stakeholder coordination and sustained behaviour change.

This webinar forms part of a broader effort to strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate the transition towards a circular economy for plastics. By facilitating peer exchange and sharing of best practices, the Intercity Network continues to support cities in advancing locally driven solutions to plastic pollution.

As countries and cities across Latin America and the Caribbean intensify efforts to address environmental challenges, initiatives such as this webinar series contribute to building more resilient, inclusive and sustainable urban systems.
