Cartagena Convention Secretariat strengthens cooperation with the ACS

On 21st July 2022, Acting Coordinator of the Cartagena Convention Secretariat, Christopher Corbin, met with Ana Ramirez, Director for Disaster Risk Reduction, Environment and the Caribbean Sea, at the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) in Trinidad and Tobago.

During the meeting, both parties discussed:

  • Opportunities to enhance the collaboration between the Cartagena Convention Secretariat and the ACS;
  • Areas for cooperation which include marine pollution, sargassum, sustainable tourism, Caribbean Sea resolution, maritime transportation, Sustainable Development Goal 14, ratification of the Cartagena Convention and its Protocols and related global Multilateral Environmental Environments.
  • Cooperation to build capacity on microplastics monitoring through a joint virtual workshop.

The meeting was held on the heels of the GEF IWEco 6th Steering Committee Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago, which was followed by the Regional Workshop on the Index of Coastal Eutrophication and Harmful Algal Blooms hosted by the Institute of Marine Affairs.
