Our Global Environment Facility-funded IWEco Project has launched a series of posters highlighting the rich flora and fauna in project countries:

Some of these species - the West Indian Whistling Duck, Hawksbill Turtle, Saint Lucia Parrot, St. Vincent Parrot, Ocelot- are protected under the Cartagena Convention’s Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife Protocol. The series was created through consultation with project partners who submitted photographs of selected species of flora and fauna that could be featured.
The Caribbean region is a hotspot of biodiversity. The Caribbean is one of the world’s most biologically diverse marine regions, with over 13,000 plant species, 12,000 fish and other marine species and 10% of the world’s coral reefs.
Our GEF IWEco Project is contributing to the preservation of Caribbean ecosystems and the sustainability of livelihoods through improved fresh and coastal water resources management, sustainable land management and sustainable forest management. These efforts also seek to enhance the resilience of socio-ecological systems to the impacts of climate change. Several of the 10 IWEco beneficiary countries are implementing national sub-projects which target water, land and ecosystem issues at specific sites.
