VI Latin American Conference on Sanitation- GEF CReW+ Compendium Launch

The GEF CReW+ Project, represented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will launch (in-person) its Compendium of Sanitation Technologies on Tuesday 11th October 2022. The soft launch of the compendium was held virtually in June 2022.

The launch will be part of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance's (SuSanA) afternoon session on “Tecnologías y Herramientas de Saneamiento” (sanitation technologies and tools) at 4:30 p.m. GMT-5.

Commemorating a milestone, building a legacy

On Tuesday 21st June 2022, the Cartagena Convention Secretariat was pleased to welcome its focal points, representatives of governments, UNEP staff, partner agencies and members of the wider public to the virtual launch of its 35th anniversary video. UN News Podcast Series: Barbados and the Blue Economy

In the lead up to the United Nations Ocean Conference, the United Nations Department of Global Communications explored some of the ocean-related issues facing the eastern Caribbean island nation of Barbados.

The feature was documented by Conor Lennon in a four-part podcast series. Episode 2 highlights the national hedgerow planting project at the National Botanical Gardens, which is the intervention site of the GEF IWEco Barbados sub-project.

Regional Workshop on the Index of Coastal Eutrophication and Harmful Algal Blooms

The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA), one of the Regional Activity Centres (RACs) for the Cartagena Convention’s Protocol Concerning Pollution from Land-Based Sources and Activities (LBS), will host a three-day workshop on coastal eutrophication and harmful algal blooms. The index of coastal eutrophication is reported under Sustainable Development Goal 14.1.1.

United Nations Oceans Conference

The Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, comes at a critical time as the world is seeking to address the many of the deep-rooted problems of our societies laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic and which will require major structural transformations and common shared solutions that are anchored in the SDGs. To mobilize action, the Conference will seek to propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.

 

35th Anniversary Video Launch

In 2021, the Cartagena Convention Secretariat celebrated 35 years since the entry into force of the Convention. A video was commissioned to commemorate this milestone achievement and highlight the importance and benefit of the Convention and its Protocols to the governments and peoples of the Wider Caribbean.
