Marine litter and plastic pollution are transboundary challenges that require coordinated action across the source-to-sea continuum, from land-based plastic waste to sea-based sources such as abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG).

This side event will highlight how UNEP's Regional Seas Programme, including COBSEA’s Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter (RAP MALI) and the Nairobi Convention’s regional work, support the translation of global commitments into practical regional and national action.

Building on Our Ocean Conference 2025 and looking ahead to UNOC-4 in 2028, the event will showcase regional experiences, technical expertise and partnerships to strengthen cooperation between the East Asian Seas and the Western Indian Ocean, promote peer learning and advance scalable solutions to marine plastic pollution.
