• Overview

February 21, 11:30-12:45 GMT+7, Room nr. G United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok

Asia-Pacific is home to vast coral reefs and rich biodiversity, but population growth, unsustainable development, pollution, ocean warming, and overfishing have led to widespread degradation of habitats and their ability to support economies and livelihoods. A healthy ocean and intact ecosystems are crucial in regulating the climate, storing carbon, and protecting coastlines from storm surges and sea-level rise. Nature-based Solutions enhance the resilience of coastal and marine ecosystems and their ability to mitigate climate change and its impacts.

The event explores how a healthy ocean can accelerate climate action and provide inclusive and sustainable blue economy opportunities for the 2030 Agenda and UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Speakers will share key challenges and solutions from the region, discuss the role of coastal communities and indigenous knowledge, innovative finance mechanisms, and opportunities to build partnerships. Speakers include governments, community leaders, civil society, finance, and business partners.
