COBSEA's Strides in Marine Conservation: Updates and Collaborations at ASEAN Partners Coordination Meeting

The Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) participated and presented updates during the Partners Coordination Meeting on Coastal and Marine Environment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held last 23 May 2023.

COBSEA provided updates on work related to marine litter including support for countries in the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to end plastic pollution. COBSEA also presented the new Framework on Marine and Coastal Ecosystems that was recently endorsed by COBSEA participating countries, strengthening COBSEA’s mandate to support in the protection of the marine and coastal environment to achieve Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework targets. During the meeting, COBSEA participating countries, which are also ASEAN member states, highlighted COBSEA’s work in the region and expressed continued support for the endeavor.

The Coordination Meeting was attended by different regional organizations who have synergistic mission of sustaining the environment of the region.
