Marine Litter in Cambodia: A Situation Analysis and Recommendations for Planning and Action

The purpose of this Situation Analysis is to investigate and articulate the Cambodian context pertaining to marine litter, with the view to developing informed and responsive recommendations that dovetail with current and planned interventions in Cambodia, as well as regional and international frameworks. This report specifically focuses on macroplastic pollution from land-based sources as the most ubiquitous, lasting and wide-spread type of marine litter in Cambodia. Marine litter is a complex and multifaceted threat that necessitates holistic, systemic and highly collaborative solutions that are actionable within the local context. This document includes information up to end of 2020 and is not exhaustive.

The report was developed by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA), with valuable input from the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia. This report was developed as part of ‘SEA circularReducing marine litter by addressing the management of the plastic value chain in South‑East Asia’ a project jointly implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and COBSEA, with funding from the Government of Sweden.
