In accordance with rule 20 of the rules of procedure of the Environment Assembly, the term of office of the current Bureau will conclude at the closure of the sixth session which is to be held at the Headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, from 26 February to 1 March 2024.  

Pursuant to rule 18 of the rules of procedure of the Environment Assembly, the Assembly shall elect a President, eight Vice-Presidents and a Rapporteur from among its members during the final meeting of the sixth session of the Assembly scheduled to be held in the afternoon of 1 March 2024. 

In this regard, each of the five United Nations regional group is invited to nominate two members to the new Bureau for election at the last plenary meeting of the sixth session of the Environment Assembly to serve at its seventh session. 

In accordance with the principles of rotation and equitable geographical representation as well as past practice, as reflected in the annexed table, the following officers of the Bureau are expected to be elected: 

  1. A President to be nominated by the group of Asia-Pacific States.  
  2. Eight Vice-Presidents to be nominated as follows: Two from the group of African States, one from the group of Asia-Pacific States, two from the group of Eastern European States, one from the group of Latin American and Caribbean States and two from the group of Western European and other States. 
  3. A Rapporteur to be nominated by the group of Latin American and the Caribbean States.
