In accordance with rule 20 of the rules of procedure of the Environment Assembly, the term of office of the current Bureau will conclude at the closure of the seventh session which is to be held at the Headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, from 8 to 12 December 2025.  

Pursuant to rule 18 of the rules of procedure of the Environment Assembly, the Assembly shall elect a President, eight Vice-Presidents and a Rapporteur from among its members during the final meeting of the seventh session of the Assembly scheduled to be held in the afternoon of 12 December 2025. 

In this regard, each of the five United Nations regional group is invited to nominate two members to the new Bureau for election at the last plenary meeting of the seventh session of the Environment Assembly to serve at its eigth session. 

In accordance with the principles of rotation and equitable geographical representation as well as past practice, as reflected in this table, the following officers of the Bureau are expected to be elected: 

  1. A President to be nominated by the group of Latin American and Caribbean States.
  2. Eight Vice-Presidents to be nominated as follows: Two from the group of African States, two from the group of Asia-Pacific States, two from the group of Eastern European States, one from the group of Latin American and Caribbean States and one from the group of Western European and other States.
  3. A Rapporteur to be nominated by the group of Western European and other States..
